Family Medicine

What is Family Medicine?

Family medicine is the medical specialty which provides continuing, comprehensive health care for the individual and family. The family physician’s care is both personal and comprehensive and not limited by age, sex, organ system or type of problem. At the center is the patient-physician relationship which is always placed within the context of the family. The development of this relationship over time, and the value placed upon it by both the physician and the patient is what distinguishes family medicine from other specialties.
