Internal Medicine

What is Internal Medicine?

Internal Medicine is the medical specialty which focuses on prevention and treatment of adult diseases. They are Doctors for Adults ®. These physicians are commonly referred to as internists or doctors of internal medicine. Internists are trained to handle their patient’s problems from the most common to the most complex. Their knowledge and expertise extends from treatment of the common cold to managing multiple chronic illnesses. They care for their patients for life! In addition, the internist is sometimes called the “doctor’s doctor”. They have earned this moniker because other physicians consult with them to help solve perplexing diagnostic problems.
